Plot

Ajay and Vijay exhibit the characteristics of the mythological characters Jaya and Vijay on the outskirts of Hyderabad City. One random day, Chaitanya, an engineering student, somehow gets trapped between these extremists and becomes an accomplice in their criminal activities.

Star Performance

All the actors have done an incredible job in their respective roles. Abhay Bethiganti is incredible as Raakshasa Kaavyam, he doesn't go overboard to show his intensity and keeps a solid balance between his violent behaviour and emotional vulnerability. Anvesh Michael, Dayanand Reddy and Pawon Ramesh are also commendable in their roles.

Analysis

The film starts with a bang, with a voiceover given by Sai Kumar establishing information in the context of the main characters. The backstory of both characters is okay, but the film smoothly lays its foundation. The actors are the backbone of this film, keeping you engaged despite pacing issues. The first half perfectly establishes the character and the story and moves quickly. There are some funny moments which are of course a template in the commercial cinema. But it keeps the audience awake and engaged. The music and cinematography also elevate the overall quality of the film. Now, let's get to brass tacks. The film’s second half is honestly downhill. There is a significant difference in its execution; it almost feels like you’re watching another film. The second half is mainly focused on Anvesh Michael’s character. He does his job but from the writing perspective the character is flawed and not fleshed out well. The twists are easily predictable. There is a sharp contrast in the second half, which will disappoint the audience. The film is extremely violent. There is no issue with that as it is an action film but sometimes it feels forced rather than integrated well in the screenplay, some fight sequences are so random that you’ll question what was the need? The film had a fantastic idea of mythological characters and their importance/relevance in today’s time, but with the mess up of the second half, it all fell down. The earnest effort by the makers is commendable but, it didn’t come to a point to be a knock out or above-average. Raakshasa Kaavyam is a fantastic concept but the underwhelming writing lets this film down.

Verdict

Raakshasa Kaavyam is a fantastic concept on paper and does have an intriguing first half but the second half just ruins it. You can watch it once for the concept and outstanding performances.
