Plot: Thilagar is the movie which has the old type revenge story. Ukkrapandiyan and Bosepandian are the rivals. Ukkrapandiyan grows vengeance on Bose and murders him. Hearing the story, Bose’s brother Thilagar kills Ukkrapandiyan’s sons. Angered Ukkrapandiyan plans to kill Bose for the murder of his sons. Whether Bosepandian is killed or not is the rest of the story.

This movie deals with lots of violence not only in the scenes, but in the dialogues too. Four teenage boys are arrested for a murder case and an eight year old boy is asked to identify the murderers. The boy identifies them in a parade and these boys’ plans to kill the 8 year old kid, for identifying them. This scene depicts the present condition of the youth and how they are fearless. They plan for murdering the boy, sitting in the juvenile prison. There is a flashback scene about the death of Bosepandiyan too. Why is Bosepandiyan appreciated by his fellow villagers and what makes Ukkrapandiyan to grow enmity on Bose is depicted well in the flashback. Bosepandiyan want his brothers to be the scholars, unlike him and so he educates them well. Thilagar goes to engineering college and Chelladurai takes charge as a policeman. Thilagar is basically a soft natured person; but when his brother was killed by the villain, he cannot control himself and hence completes the villain’s sons.

These types of revenge stories are seen in Tamil cinema, frequently. Thilagar is not a special story, but the director has taken few efforts to make this usual revenge story, a special one by making some impressive scenes. The scene in which the hero Thilagar takes in charge of the duty of his brother, reminds us of Kamal’s ThevarMagan.

Kishore’s performance is very good. He has proved once again that he can do any kinds of roles, including villainy and Character roles. This film could be watched once for the performance of Kishore and the serious scenes that makes the viewers come in front of their seats. Other than violence, it is a good movie to watch.
