Rocky Handsome Click to look into! >> Read More... , starring John Abraham Like some of our sexy stars, John Abraham has had >> Read More... , has hit the screens after much anticipation. Well, let’s see what the movie has in store for us.

Plot

The movie is set in the backdrop of Goa. John is a pawnshop owner who later turns to be a skilled assassin.  Diya Chalwad, his neighbor, is the only solace for this otherwise loner. The mother of Diya is a drug addict and a striptease performer. When Diya is kidnapped, John is obviously furious.

There are a plethora of criminals (well they have various “designations”) in the movie. John has a very bad past (his pregnant wife Shruti Haasan Shruti Hassan is an Indian film actress born on 28 >> Read More...  was killed by the baddies). Well, someone should teach these criminals a lesson or two right? So our action hero John Abraham gears up, and besides thrashing the criminals, saves the bright Diya from their clutches.

Star Performances

John (who also jointly produced the movie) has a permanent frown fixed on his face, and he flaunts his body.  He is convincing in the action scenes. Shruti Haasan is quite spontaneous in her short role. Director Nishikant is also seen in the film as a drug dealer. Though he is not exactly menacing, he has done a pretty good job.

Analysis

It seems Rocky Handsome has a soft corner for the baddies. If not why it seems to highlight gruesome violence by showing the baddies having whatever weapon one can think of! But again, the hero John Abraham is no less vindictive, he is also equally bad (ok I correct, made bad).

Director Nishikant Kamat (who had earlier directed Drishyam), stumbles to provide the true essence of the 2010 Korean movie The Man From Nowhere. The script is disjointed, and you tend to get bored at one point. But if you are a die-hard action movie fan, then you would patiently watch the film. Also, the movie would appeal to Hollywood audience. Though the director has tried to suit the native taste, he could have taken better care on the movie's execution.

What’s there?

  • The baddies’ characters have been well-etched.
  • The second half compensates for the lackluster first half.
  • The action sequences are choreographed well.
  • The sound effects are commendable.

What’s not there?

  • The plot is confused.
  • We get to see people firing in most of the scenes that at one point we get bugged.
  • The movie has concentrated more on violence rather than emotions.
  •  At one point we get a feeling that the movie is dragging.
  • The humor element seems to be added just for namesake.

Verdict

If you are game for vehement violence, then give Rocky Handsome a try.
