CAST & CREW
Golmaal is back with its third installment“ Golmaal 3”. It is a Bollywood action comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty and the sequel to the 2008 film Golmaal Returns. Golmaal has become a brand in comedy genre and thus every movie of this franchise carries a burden to prove itself. The question is “have Golmall3 lived up to the expectations?” and the answer is YES, it has. It has succeeded in tickling your funny bone. Golmaal3 is funnier and more entertaining than the first two parts.
Set in Goa, it follows the story of two groups who can't stand each other. One group is of Gopal (Ajay Devgn) who lives with his brother Laxman ( Shreyas Talpade), mother Geeta (Ratna Pathak Shah) and friend Daboo (Kareena Kapoor). The other group is led by Madhav ( Arshad Warsi) which includes Lucky ( Tusshar Kapoor), Laxman ( Kunal Khemu) and their father Pritam ( Mithun Chakraborty).Pritam meets his one-time lover Geeta after many years and realises their old spark is still alive. They decide to get married but the feud between their respective children creates tension in their marriage. Daboo plays cupid and somehow gets them married, thereby bringing the two groups under the same roof. This joint existence of children forever makes way for clashes resulting in funny situations, antics and hilarious sequences.
Golmaal3 have plenty of action and comedy. Also, it relies on performances that are sparkling.Characters’ diverseness and their fair share of screen space are admirable. The dialogues are witty and fresh. However, the script is inconsistent. It starts on a funny note but fails to hang on to it and comes back strongly in the zany climax.All-in-all, it is a brainless comedy and out--and-out entertainer at the same time.
Performances are the highlights of Golmaal3.
Ajay Devgn has given a rocking performance. Kareena, who plays the neighbourhood tomboy, is admirable and completely spontaneous. Mithun Chakraborty and Johny Lever are the souls of the movie. The best part is Mithun da’s willingness to poke fun of his own popular 80s films. Johny’s mindless wit and situational comedy deserve a thumbs up. He indeed is king of comedy. It was fun watching Tusshar Kapoor, especially for his emotional outburst with the entire gang, as it turns out to be comical than emotional.Shreyas Talpade’s act is boring.Arshad Warsi’s comic timing is very well, and Kunal Khemu successfully brings a brief spark of fun.
1. Songs are cool and continue to buzz even when one steps out of the cinema.
2. Spoofs on retro era appear to be entertaining in the whole movie.
3. One liners and few jokes that linger in your mind when you walk out of the theatre.
What’s not there?
1. The melodrama of 70s story seems to be overstretched.
2. Editing would have been better had there been no repetition.
GOLMAAL 3 is a fun ride and hence worth watching. It is total paisa vasul movie with thrice the action and gags.If you enjoyed watching GOLMAAL and GOLMAAL RETURNS, then you will definitely enjoy GOLMAAL 3, but don’t forget to leave your brains home.
