Plot

Gopal (Ajay), Ekta (Kareena), Esha (Amrita) and Lucky (Tusshar) lives under one roof. Ekta, Gopal’s wife, is obsessed with Balaji’s daily soaps and Lucky, a dumb boy, loves a hearing impaired girl, Daisy (Anjana). Gopal saves Meera (Celina) from the gang of hooligans and gets stuck in a yacht. Both end up spending the night on the yacht, and when he comes back next day, he becomes a victim of Ekta’s suspicion.

Ekta suspect that Gopal is having an entanglement and seeks an explanation from him. Gopal knows that it will be futile to tell her the truth. Hence he cooks up a story that he was with his friend Anthony Gonsalves. As expected, Ekta is not convinced by Gopal’s tale and decides to invite Anthony home. Gopal finds out about Ekta’s plan and convinces his junior Laxman (Shreyas Talpade) to act as Anthony.

A hilarious ride begins when original Anthony lands up all of a sudden. On the other hand, ACP Madhav (Arshad Warsi) is assigned a case to find out the killer of the person whose dead body they found on the yacht. Coincidentally, the body is claimed from the same yacht and on the same day when Gopal spent that night with Meera. All become suspect for the murder and how the case is solved forms the rest of the tale.

Analysis

It is hard to decide whether the movie is good or not because there was the time when I was laughing out loud and when I just wanted to bang my head with the wall. Though Golmaal Returns isn’t a comedy masterpiece yet it will tickle your funny bone. It is a movie with the great star cast and clichéd storyline.

Star Performances

It was fun watching Ajay Devgn especially his way of taking the jokes on him. Tusshar Kapoor's mute character comes as a welcome relief in the midst of all the screaming and howling. The audience almost split their sides with laughter with his act of being a dumb.

Kareena Kapoor deserves the pat of appreciations as a suspicious wife. Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Arora surprises with their performance and connects well with the cast. Arshad Warsi has given an energetic performance as ACP. Celina makes her presence feel even in her small role. No one tries to steal the screen space from another and everybody have got an equal spotlight.

What’s there?

Though overall writing is weak, yet few sequences do succeed in entertaining you.

Dialogues will make you howling with laughter.

Music is grooving.

'Tha Karke' totally stands out.

What’s not there?

The movie lacks technicality.

Editing is too plain. The storyline is weak.

The cinematography is up to the mark.

Verdict

Except few gags, it was a major let-down. Golmaal Returns does not match the audience’s expectations.
