Looks like Aanand L Rai is in serious trouble.
After the controversy that emerged over the AI edit to the re-release of Raanjhanaa, the Eros International seems to be in no mood for mercy. According to the recent reports, the production company has refused to allow the ownership of the franchise to Aanand L Rai, the director of the movie.
The Eros International has declared itself the sole owner of all the rights related to the Tanu Weds Manu franchise. They even sent a legal notice to Aanand L Rai over his claims on the project, especially when he decided to work on Tanu Weds Manu 3.
Tanu Weds Manu was a romantic comedy directed by Aanand L Rai. Starring R Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut, Deepak Dobriyal, Jimmy Shergill etc. in prominent roles, the movie released in late 2011. Despite mixed reviews and negligible promotions, the movie emerged as a surprise hit, giving Aanand the much-needed breakthrough in the Indian film industry.
Following the huge success of Raanjhanaa, Aanand L Rai brought out the sequel to Tanu Weds Manu, which featured Kangana Ranaut in a double role. The movie turned out to be a blockbuster, earning more than 250 crores worldwide.
