Plot
The opening scene shows a rescue operation of a CIA agent by John Kelly and his team. They later discover that the captors are Russian Military. The situation escalates when Russian FSB operatives infiltrate the houses of John Kelly and his unit members, killing everyone, including Kelly’s pregnant wife. Kelly manages to kill off every agent except one, who manages to escape. Healed of his wounds, John Kelly searches for the Russian Diplomat who leaked the information about the Navy SEAL unit members to know about the escaped killer. Digging deeper, he discovers information that could endanger the peace between US and Russia. The rest of the movie focuses on Kelly’s attempt to stay afloat between his vengeance and service to his country.
Star Performance
Michael B Jordan, yet again, proves that he is a versatile star who can handle drama and action equally well. His charisma fills the screens and his macho ruthless action sequences that engage the audience. In addition to Michael B Jordan, Jamie Bell acts his role flawlessly to perfection. Guy Pierce again treads in known waters with his usual secretary role.
Analysis
The film follows the same track as any American patriotic action film, filled with blazing bullets, justifiable deaths, and dialogues brimming with patriotism. The entire movie runs on the striking performance of Michael B Jordan as John Kelly, the patriotic ruthless Navy SEAL. Mostly, the plot follows the exact path as any other classic revenge story. The twists and suspense are clear as daylight and easily predictable. But the action sequences are breathtaking and truly engaging, with Michael B Jordan filling the screens with his charisma. However, this alone doesn’t save the film from ending up in a cliche plot with poor storytelling. Most characters are presented as easily disposable, without any opportunity for character development. Some characters even lack clarity, like John Kelly’s wife, who merely has 10 minutes of screen time. The absence of a proper backstory affects the film’s flow. The audience struggles to form an emotional bond with the characters. Even the patriotism-oozing dialogues are something that the audience has seen before.

Verdict
The film runs on the bold and macho performance of Michael B Jordan, with his timely dialogues and perfect action sequences. Story and screenplay are something that the audience has seen and gotten used to. Despite the engaging action and Michael Jordan’s screen presence, the movie is dull and pointless. The movie is a treat for action fans, but remember to ignore the storyline.
