Intro: Tron Legacy is the sequel to the 1982 cult movie Tron and follows the story of the son of Kevin Flynn trying to rescue his father.
Plot: The film is shown in today’s world where Kevin’s son is all grown up as Sam Flynn ( Garrett Hedlund Garrett John Hedlund is a Hollywood actor, singer, >> Read More... ) and is ENCOM’s primary shareholder. He has been raised as an orphan since his dad went missing in 1989 when he was the CEO of ENCOM International. He is somehow tricked by a computer system and gets trapped inside it where he meets Clu, resembling younger Kevin Flynn. Clu nearly murders Sam before being saved by Quorra ( Olivia Wilde Olivia Wilde was born on March 10th, 1984 in NewYo >> Read More... ), an apprentice of Kevin Flynn. He later finds out that Kevin had been working to create a perfect computer system and conceived Clu and Tron ( a security program). Some ISOs (isophormic algorithms) also get created along with it having miraculous powers. Clu betrays them killing Tron and destroys the ISOs except Quorra, who makes it alive. The I/O portal is closed, and Sam has a disc that can take Clu into the real world and destroy the original world. Sam goes in search of Zuse (Micheal Sheen) who can provide a way out of the system. Zuse betrays Sam to Clu, who later takes the disc. Flynn and Quorra flee away to be seized by Clu again but saved by Rinzler (later recognized as Tron reprogrammed by Clu). Tron later helps them destroy Clu and sacrifices and himself and allows Quorra and Sam to escape the virtual world. Sam then deactivates the system.
Review: The movie lives up to the original movie in replicating the magic again. The visual effects are terrific, and the art direction outclasses everything. It is a treat to the eyes with dazzling scenes using Chroma keying and ten companies providing 3D effects. The story is sloppy, and there is a lack of character development. The movie skips logic because you don’t need it all times. It plays to the eyes with memorable scenes like the light cycle race and the hilarious nightclub scene. The performance put in by Olivia and Garrett are convincing and ingratiating.
Verdict: This movie does justice to the legacy set by Tron and deserves to be appreciated more for its technique than story writing and script.
