The Queen of Versailles is a 2014 flick and is a documentary that draws inspiration from the 2008 economic crisis.
There is a very wealthy family that faces the biting financial crisis. The movie has a resemblance to the Shakespearean tragedy. The movie’s plot revolves around two fascinating characters that fell off the elite society and became poverty-stricken. Also, the film throws light on the inherent good and bad of the American dreams of being rich.
The plot revolves around the vast expanse of an estate that the family raises. In the course of time, David and Jackie’s family stares at a cold reality, and they have to change the way they live. Everybody’s character gets chiseled by the sordid financial situation.
The couple David and Jackie are out on a quest to raise a sprawling mansion that would satisfy all her desires. But as irony would have it, the vast expanse of the manor gets a name Versailles. Versailles is a mansion where Prince Louis was beheaded. But, David Siegel loses everything due to own expenses on the mansion. Jackie is usually on a shopping spree. But expenses burn a hole in her pocket.
Scenes unfold in a manner that deeply moves the audience. Jackie is seen changing from her usual shops to much cheaper shops.
A Glee may take over the audiences when Jackie is caught unawares when the financial crisis is lurking around the corner. But, at the same time, one sympathizes with her and senses her agony as the construction is neglected. The reason is that in everybody there is that concern for their homes. Also, audiences can experience the pain when Jackie’s children are not able to get what they want.
Both of the actors have done it well. Jackie’s performance as there is a change in lifestyle takes the audience by awe.
The movie is bizarre of course but reveals the clan that tries to get what it cannot afford. And, ‘The Versailles’ is a tale about how greed would consume a person like cancer.
