Plot: The plot goes ahead in time to 2022. Crime is rampant in America, and the prisons are brimming with the accused. The government decides to pass a bill suspending all the Emergency Services for 12 hours. The decision means that anything illegal otherwise will be legal for those 12 hours. The decision is taken by the government for better growth of the country’s economy. For the economic growth to be possible, the society should be ridden off the destitute, the ill, and the hibernating people. Even murder goes unpunished. A new entity is already formed and is strangely given the name ‘New Founding Fathers’. The 12 hours of crime helps every person drain out the animal instincts in him, and become more human. But, James Sandin and Mary, an American couple, have to bear the brunt. As a trespasser forces his way into their house, trouble brews. The couple has to save themselves and their children from the consequences. The plot revolves around the character of James Sandin, who is a successful marketer of security systems for residences. The couple with their children lives happily in the suburban area. As the purge happens, James locks his house with a security system. There is a twist in the movie as James has to turn off the security system. The inevitable situation arrives when he sees a man fleeing some gangsters. He opens the door for the man and gives refuge. The gangster leader leaves James to choose between handing over the victim and getting killed if he refuses to do so.
The movie does not randomly go about showing bloody scenes. Even when James and wife Mary near the breaking point, the camera eyes have captured their reaction beautifully. Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey have performed in a way that pleases their fans.
Verdict: The movie’s length is short but has plenty of interesting twists in it. Verdict: The movie ‘The Purge’ is not any masterpiece, but is sure to pin the audiences to their seats.
