The Iron Claw is a sports biography movie on the Von Enrich family, written and directed by Sean Durkin. It is said that the Von Enrich title was cursed and suffered from multiple tragedies. Fritz Von Enrich, played by McCallany, was a retired professional wrestler and the owner of the World Class Championship Wrestling Company (WCCW). He had five sons with his wife Doris Von Enrich, played by Maura Tierney. The eldest son Jack Jr. died when he was only five. The second eldest son was Kevin Von Enrich, who wrestled in WCCW, played by Zac Efron Zac Efron is the debonair screen icon in Hollywood >> Read More... . The third eldest son David Von Enrich, who was also into wrestling, was played by Harris Dickinson. The fourth son Kerry Von Enrich was played by Jeremy Allen White. He was also into sports and was an aspiring discus thrower. The youngest son Mike Von Enrich, is played by Stanley Simons. He was not into sports and was an aspiring musician, which is why his father never supported him.

Plot

Von Enrich's family was a family of famous wrestlers. The movie starts in the late 1980s. Fritz has grown all his sons tough to be wrestlers. As a result, Kevin had great shape, was a champion in wrestling, and was also the heavyweight winner at the Texas level. Mr. Fritz was very proud of him and wanted him to win the world championship, which was his unfulfilled dream. But one day after a vital match, Fritz was very upset about the performance that Kevin gave and therefore decided to prepare Kerry for the world championship. Listening to which Kevin was amazed. But the twist in the story comes up with the ‘Von Enrich” title, it is said that the title is cursed and the family having the title suffers heavy loss and even unnatural deaths. Is the title cursed and can bring bad luck to the family? Will the Von Enrich family be able to survive? The rest of the story talks about it.

Star Performance

Zac Efron, who played Kevin Von Enrich did a fantastic job transforming his body according to the needs of the movie, he did look like a wrestler. No doubt his expressions were right on point, whether it was an emotional or a rage scene. Also, the remaining three brothers suited their character very well. The bond between the brothers in the movie is heart-touching and a rare sight of love. The rest of the cast were also so good that they was capable of taking us back to the 1980s.

Analysis

Not only the actors but the commendation is well deserved by makeup artists, costume designers, set dressers, and all other professionals who have worked hard to make the movie as realistic as possible. The complaint that arises is that the height of the brothers does not match the height of the Von Enrich brothers, who were the inspiration for the movie. Also, it seems that the film is rushed and a few scenes were trimmed from the real story of the Von Enrich family. Apart from that the movie was entertaining, because of the twists and surprises that the film releases at regular intervals.

What’s There?

  • Naturalistic and genuine performance.
  • Competently and professionally choreographed scenes.

What’s Not There?

  • The movie could have been better if the moviemakers had elaborated the scenes.

Verdict

It is a wonderful family movie that contains love, tragedy, and a good ending to it. Even if you are not a huge fan of wrestling, this movie can still get you indulged till the end. Overall, it is a must-watch movie that makes us aware of the tragic family.
