This French romantic-comedy drama, which was shown as a black-and-white silent film, sent the cash registers ringing and went on to clinch a host of awards. It essentially shines the lime light on the relationship that blossoms between two cinema enthusiasts – an older artist and a rising young female actress.

Plot:

A quirky incident leads to the young actress, Peppy Miller, being featured on the front page of a newspaper along with star, George Valentine. As anticipated, the two go on to strike a relationship and Valentine even helps her in landing a role in an upcoming production. Soon, things go awry when the silent-film era begins to slowly ebb away.

Valentine, then decided to produce and make his own silent films, which cause him to lose all his money. Meanwhile, Peppy becomes a famous star. With anger and frustration, Valentine sells of his personal property and even lights fire on his own film reels. His faithful dog then saves his life, but he remains injured. Soon, Peppy convinces Valentine to act in the upcoming musical and he agrees with much reluctance. Later, the two are seen to do a movie with Valentine speaking a remarkable word, which gives the movie a cherished end.

Verdict:

The artist, managed to trigger the likes of the youth and the elderly alike. The movie conferred Dujardin, the Best Actor Academy Award in 2011, making him the first French actor to do so. Also, the entire team, along with the Director, were showered with numerous other awards.
