Plot

In Second Act, Maya Vargas works as assistant manager of the Value Shop store. She worked there for 15 years. During her job period, she managed improved sales, customer relations, and general store culture because of her intuitive and innovative ideas. She always wishes to be promoted to manager. Everyone around, like her boyfriend Trey, co-workers, and several regular customers, tell her that she will become a manager. Unfortunately,  she is not selected by her boss. Her boss, Mr. Weiskopf, tells her they appreciate her work and success, but she is just a high school graduate, and the company requires a college graduate. Maya becomes disappointed about it. She, with the help of her friend’s son, makes a Fake Resume. In her fake resume, they wrote Harvard degree and world traveler. It leads to her selection in a large cosmetics company. What will happen to Maya? Will she give up her dreams? The rest of the story deals with it.

Star Performance

Jennifer Lopez, as Maya DaVilla, did an incredible performance in the film. She shows a strong woman who wants success in her career. Her determination to fight against the odds was well portrayed. Milo Ventimiglia, as Trey, did a fantastic performance in the movie. He shows the audience a cute boyfriend who is supportive of his girlfriend. His combination with Jenifer represents a happy romantic couple. Their chemistry was fantastic. Vanessa Hudgens as Zoe Clarke was brilliant. She portrayed pretty well how a great businessperson works. Her respect for Maya was well shown. Towards the film’s end, the audience will love her relationship with Maya. Leah Remini as Joan and Treat Williams as Anderson Clarke did preformed remarkable in the movie. All the other actors were as good as the main lead actors.

Analysis

The storyline of the film was great, enjoyable, and dramatic –the film focus on the importance of street smartness. The film is based on how women struggle in jobs during their forties, where more matter is on academics than their skills. From the start till the end, the audience will love the story. The costume design was brilliant. The background music and songs play a significant role in the movie. The dialogues were excellent. The script was great but not well executed.  The comic elements were good. The story seems to be expected. The character development was poorly portrayed. At a certain point in time, the film becomes boring. The dramatic elements were enjoyable. There was a great flow in the storyline but not well executed.

  • The storyline of the film seems to be expected.

The film was enjoyable, and fun. As a fan of Jennifer Lopez, you will love this film. The film’s comic elements are entertaining.
