Plot
The film is a symbolization of how people are unable to escape their resentment and past trauma. Story follows a puppeteer named Philip, struggling in his career and an abusive past that haunts him. Philips returns to his childhood home along with a grotesque puppet named Possum. The haunting by the puppet started the moment he returned, memories crashing down on him from his abusive stepfather and childhood. Philip is determined to destroy the puppet, failing all his attempts. On multiple occasions he breaks the puppet but it always reappears in the most unusual spot. The film is disturbing and very creepy at times. The reappearance of the puppet after it is destroyed depicts the inability to escape the inner demons.
Star Performance
Sean Harris plays the role of Philip; A puppeteer. Grown man that is struggling mentally and traumatized because of his childhood abuse. Sean effectively plays the disturbed person from the events throughout the film. His acting seems genuine, conveying Philip's inability to let go of the past and struggling internally. Alun Armstrong gives a freezing chill presence as Philip's abusive stepfather. His manipulative and maniac glare adds to the horrors and mental resentment in the film. Both the actors handled their roles excellently to drive through the eerie and creepy atmosphere.
Analysis
Possum is a well-crafted and directed film with terrific scripting and acting. Director and writer Matthew made an excellent script, dialogues and scenes that pierced through. The traumatic, abusive childhood followed by the haunting of the puppet. This film symbolizes how deep can childhood trauma affect a being's state. excellent cinematography and editing. The background music adds to the eeriness.

Possum is a well-crafted film with its traumatizing scenes and eerie atmosphere. Abstract style storytelling and slow unfolding an abusive childhood that may not be suitable for everyone. This film also raises awareness of mental stress and traumatic childhood and the inability to escape it even after several years and how it follows us. Audiences interested in psychological horror and drama may find it very appealing.
