’ manages to boast the gory sequences, filled with an earthquake underwater, resulting in a turn of events, and displays the consequences of the presence of the man-eating fish in the lake: gallons of blood, hanging remains and the skeletal carnage.
Plot:
It all begins with the disappearance of the fisherman, Matt Boyd, in Lake Victoria, who is attacked by the deadly piranha’s. Finding of his impaired body are discovered by sheriff Julie and Deputy Fallon. Julie’s son, Jake, agrees to show Derrick a pornographer who locales around the lake. Meanwhile, sheriff Julie plans on closing the lake, but has second thoughts, because two thousand college-going students were on spring break, and this was important for the revenue of the small town. However, Piranha’s are attacking everyone who dives into the lake. Julie, along with a team of seismologist divers, tries to tackle the situation. The divers discover large piranha egg stocks, but they are killed before they can inform anyone. Julie manages to capture a lone piranha, and shows it to a biologist, who explains that piranha’s are highly aggressive and are able to devour their prey in seconds. Julie, along with her team, try to evacuate the lake, but their warnings are ignored till almost everyone in the lake is injured or killed. Meanwhile, Jake and Derrick go through a turn of events and Derrick gets killed. Deputy Fallon tries to shred many piranha’s while Jake calls out Julie for help. It’s a story of the chasing, and the aftermath of piranha’s, which turns the tourist spot into a bloodbath, ending with a realization that all the piranha’s killed were just babies. Just when everyone starts wondering about where the parents are, a queen piranha emerges!
Analysis:
It’s termed to be more funny than disgusting. Alexandre Aja, the director, manages to live upto the expectations of the remake. It boasts of a blend of hilarious jokes with excessive blood at the same time, being unpredictable with every prey that the piranhas devour. The film rightfully displays what it stands for. With an ensemble cast featuring blood bath and nudity, Alexandre Aja certainly stands apart.
