Sharlto Copley was born on 27th November 1973, in Pretoria, South Africa. He had been fathered by a university producer, Dr. Bruce Copley, and his mother was a healer in Cape Town. He achieved his education from the St. Andrews Preparatory School, in Grahamstown and also from Redhill School, in Morningside, Johannesburg. He has two siblings, Donovan, who is part of the band Hot water in Cape Town, and Marisa, his sister who is skilled at dancing and costume designing. At the age of 22, Copley offered a 16-year-old director, Neill Blomkamp, to direct movies under the name of his production company.
