ANALYSIS
The concept of Burlesque is old and nothing to relate with today’s showgirls. It’s easy to find out that it is a new comer’s work and amateur in writing screenplay, dialogues.
The filmmaker didn’t use their main character’s talent, which is singing. This film reminds of film Chicago, which is similarly showing the musical drama of cabaret with hats, garters, and chair dancing. It’s a typical stereotyped character of a small town girl dreaming to become a famous singer.
The feel of the strip club is missing. There’s again a stereotyped nice gay man’s character who is a mediator between Tess & Ali. Repeated shots of exterior of the lounge make it look predictive and boring. The audience gathered to see these performances looks unnatural and shady in it.
STAR PERFORMANCES
Cher won the Global Globe Award for Best Original Song for ‘You haven’t seen the last of me’ from this movie. Though she is a good singer also a wonderful actress. It’s Christina’s first film, but she has done thoughtful acting to portray Ali on screen.
She is comfortable with dialogues; her presence on stage is graceful.

got a small role but still she is natural in it.
WHAT’S THERE?
Great original soundtracks as well as stage choreography of Cher & Aguilera. Interestingly, this film makes us feel the motherly warmth of an old artist towards a new big star.
There are tons of Hollywood musical movies elements in ‘Burlesque’. It gives a nostalgic feel about burlesque but it never vanished, and it is still alive.
WHAT’S NOT THERE?
There’s no depth in characters. Though singers cum actors tried to pull it well on screen. This movie is far from reality and hard to connect for audience.
VERDICT
This movie is for those who are a huge fan of Cher & Christina Aguilera. The point which filmmaker tries to tell but unable to convey is that when we re-imagines new era, old becomes new, and we invest energy in it to continue our journey as an artist but, this film is too weak, too forgettable and too much of glamour in show business rather than politics, romance, comedy or satire in it.
