Plot

The movie opens with a real estate broker Rick Carver being interviewed by the police he was the last person who saw Mr Cadwell, the victim who shot himself. Rick tells the police that as soon as Mr Caldwell saw him, he went into his house and just shot himself. Rick is enlisted by a bank to do a bunch of foreclosures on evicted homes and this person who shot himself was someone about to be evicted. We see that Rick doesn’t even care when he tells all these to the police as if all these are very common for him. Next, we see Dennis Nash, a construction worker and a single father who is going through a bit of a financial rough patch. He owes the bank about eighty thousand dollars and his family is on the verge of being evicted from their homes. Dennis goes to the court with the insurance bankers for a plea but the judge gives him 30 days of appeal. For his son’s and his mother’s wellbeing, he starts looking for jobs but finds nothing and to make matter worse the following day, a group of sheriffs accompanied by Rick arrive at Dennis’s place and they tell him that the bank has officially taken ownership of their homes and they must leave immediately, of course Dennis points out that the court gave him 30 days but Rick counters by saying that he has a court order signed by the judge. Forcefully they took all their belongings out. The rest of the movie revolves around how he manages to get his house back.

Star Performance

You will enjoy the portrayal of the peripheral characters. Felt like they were not actors but real people that this director was documenting. Also, the filmmakers did an amazing job in creating this masterpiece.

Analysis

The Story is based on the 2008 financial crisis. This story's impact is based on a coherent and intelligent telling of how these characters experience their roles in this Human Drama. Human Drama centers on a basic fundamental need for shelter, a place, and a home. It also thankfully plays to the message that human beings despite overwhelming coercion, have a choice about how they respond to, injustice, and the choice(s) they make in the face of this challenge, can and do; Make A Difference. There is some very important material here, it speaks quite realistically about survival and what it takes to achieve that.

What’s There?

  • The movie is based on actual incidents. Therefore, it’s very realistic and relatable.

What’s Not There?

  • The movie is a little slow and fails to deliver the tension.

Verdict

The movie is pretty intense to watch. It shows how loopholes during the 2008 2009 housing market crash created a situation for survival of the most cunning. The movie is full of lessons to be learned and rules of Real Estate and Personal Values. You can surely give it a watch.
