There was a time when comedy films were nothing less than a lifeline for Tollywood. They were like the ‘goose that gave golden eggs’.
However, post-COVID, it’s the reverse case in action. Initially, it wasn’t visible till 2022. However, in 2024, forget mainstream films, even comedy movies are struggling to break even at the box office.
Only recently, films like ‘Sundaram Master’ and ‘Chaari 111’ were released at the box office, hoping to break the lull at the box office. However, none of the two managed to impress the audience and sank without a trace.

Things like Instagram reels, memes, etc. have only made the job of comic writers difficult.
