The release of Tamil movies on Friday has been stalled. The Tamil Film Producers Council has arrived at a decision not to screen or release new Tamil movies from Friday. This is a move taken against the levy of local body tax of 10 percent. It is to be noted that there is difficulty for film producers following the levy of Goods and Services Tax. The announcement of local body tax came as a thunder bolt for the producers. Also, there has been a 28 percent GST on the movies. Also, a report said that the council had conveyed its opinion on the problem.
When there is no regularization of entrance ticket, the levy of local body tax would cause chaos, said the film producers. The council announced that in a meeting today, it would forward request to the government to cancel the local body tax. Also, theaters across the state were shut for some days following the levy of GST in July. The theaters were opened following assurance from the government that they would form a committee to look into the demands.
