Twenty tourists from Trichy and Tiruchendur were traveling in a boat in Manappad. As the boatman has overloaded the boat with a huge number of people, the boat capsized and caused the reason for the death of nine. However, a detailed investigation will reveal the reason for the accident, say the cops. Among those nine people, two were kids. District collector M Ravikumar says that three families have booked the boat. 19 people were rescued and they are getting the treatment in Govt and Pvt hospitals, informs the collector. It is to be noted that it is not a passenger boat, but a fishing boat. This is the second biggest accident in the recent years. In December 2011, 22 people were killed in a similar accident happened in Pulicat Lake. Meanwhile, the Minister Kadambur Raju provided the relief funds for the victims.
