A producer, who started a film with her as the female lead removed her from the movie, after shooting some sequences. When she inquired about it, he had stated that she is not fit for the heroine and from that moment, she started hating herself.  Later she came out of it and proved herself and grabbed national awards and Filmfare Awards for her performances. Vidya was also awarded Padma Shri in 2014 for her excellent service to the film industry.
