” flagged off the first electric bus from the secretariat. The electric buses are air-conditioned and they hold the maximum capacity of 72 people including standees. The electric buses are made by Ashok Leyland and these buses will operate in the routes, Thiruvanmiyur to Chennai Central railway station and Koyambedu to Broadway routes.
The buses are driven by the battery and these eco-friendly buses could be driven with a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The batteries could be recharged at the charging stations in MTC depots. The doors are pneumatically operated and the buses have tubeless tires and have two airbags at the front and 4 in the rear. With the hydraulic power steering system, the buses have dual circuit air brakes too.
