Abhinaya Saraswathi Saroja Devi Breathed Her Last!

The multilingual veteran Saroja Devi passed away today in Bangalore at 87 due to age-related illness.

Being adorned for decades, Saroja Devi, who is addressed as Kannadaththu Paingili and Abhinaya Saraswathi, started her career in 1954. She was born to the police officer Bhairappa and Rudramma, a homemaker in Bangalore. She debuted in Mahakavi Kalidasa in Kannada. Saroja Devi was one among the very few actresses in 50s, to have starred in all the South and Hindi movies.

Saroja Devi married an engineer, SriHarsha, in 1967.  They have two children, among them one is Bhvaneshwari, Saroja Devi’s niece, whom she adopted. Harsha died in 1986. Saroja Devi’s expressions and dialogue delivery took her to heights. She is still adorned for her Lovebirds song from Anbevaa with MGR. Though she left the world, her performances will be celebrated, and she will be remembered forever.
