Mohanlal Resigns, AMMA Dissolved Over Hema Committee Report

The Hema Committee report has sent Mollywood into a tizzy!

In a major decision that shocked many, actor Mohanlal resigned as the head of AMMA, i.e. Association of Malayalam Movie Artists. Not only that, the actor has also dissolved the entire AMMA committee for the time being, until the investigations related to the Hema Committee report.

According to the reports, the Hema Committee report that was appointed to address the grievances of the Malayalam film industry, has revealed some dark truths about the entire industry. Apart from accusations of a powerful lobby controlling the Malayalam film industry, the report highlighted some disturbing details about the Malayalam film industry, such as mistreatment of industrial workers, sexual harassment of female coworkers, etc.

More than the much talked about MeToo scandal, it is the Hema Committee report that has sent Mollywood into a frenzy. Popular actor Siddique filed a counter case against one of the complainants, before resigning himself from the membership of the AMMA that Mohanlal once headed.

Some are of the opinion that the report was long overdue, while others maintain that this report has not even scratched the surface. It would be interesting to see if other industries respond to this crisis or not.
