Girish Karnad, the legendary movie cum theater actor, writer, director and playwright from Karnataka is no more. He died at his residence in Bangalore today, due to multiple organ failure, say the reports. The 81-year-old actor was last seen in
Tiger Zinda Hai with
Salman Khan in Bollywood and Neenillada Male in Kannada. The upcoming films of the legendary actor are “
Pora,” “Vidura,” “Shabdamani,” Apna Desh in Kannada and Sketch For Love in Telugu.
Girish is a Jnanpith Award recipient. His literary works are highly appreciated. Girish Karnad’s literary works are translated in English too. Besides Jnanpith Award, he had received Sangeet Natak Akademi award and Varthur Navya Award in 1972, Padmashri in 1974, Padma Bhushan in 1992, Kannada Sahitya Parishat in 1992, Sahitya Academy Award in 1994, Kalidas Samman in 1998 and the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award. He had been honored by the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2011 for his literary works.
