The veteran director,
Girish Kasaravalli
, says that the Oscar is not a significant Award, as it gives preference only to the popular movies and not the best-tried movies. Recently, he attended the “Belli Hejje” program, which was held in Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy. During the event, he said, “People have misunderstood that Oscar is great. But, it is not true. The importance is given not to the best films, but to the popular films. “Lagaan” team spent nearly Rs. 9 crores to premiere the movie to the Oscar team. I don’t think that is right. Indian selection committee is not selecting the right movies to send it to the Oscar committee. Spending the money on films does not mean the films are good. If I have Rs. 1 crore, I will direct two movies.” Wow! Well said, Girish Ji!
