1. Kya Qusoor Hai Amla Ka?

“Kya Qusoor Hai Amla ka” is an ongoing serial on ‘Star Plus’ which portrays how the society treats rape victims. This serial is about a girl named Amla ho lives in Dharamshala and is engaged to her childhood friend Dev. Amla is gang raped by some rich boys and she is treated badly by the society. There have been cases about rape victims treated as the accused itself. Hence the morality of the victim decreases rapidly. The show highlights the narrow-minded mentality of the society and how it affects the survivor’s life.

2. Balika Vadhu

Kacchi umar ke pakke rishte “Balika Vadhu” is a story set in the rural villages of Rajasthan. This serial brings out the evil tradition of child marriage and how innocent children are forced into a big responsibility like marriage. The show is about a girl Anandi and a boy Jagdish who are married to each other at a very young age and how they face difficulties in life because of being married very early. Balika Vadhu, directed by Siddharth Sengupta and Pradeep Yadav, had a very powerful impact on the society and made people think twice before getting their children married. Ammaji is later on opposed by her own granddaughters who fight against her for the rights of women. This serials potrays all the social evils and practices in the society against women. Diya aur baati hum shows the journey of Sandhya from a college going girl to becoming an IPS officer. Sandhya is forced to marry Sooraj after her parents’ death.Sooraj helps Sandhya in becoming an IPS officer and is seen supporting her in every situation of her life. This show breaks the stereotypical relationship of husband and wife where the husband is always portrayed as in greater societal stature in comparison to his wife. “Diya Aur Baati Hum” shows that a woman can handle her job as well as her family. This show has also taught us that a husband must support his wife in all situations and be a support system for her on her way to success.

“Everest” is a story of a girl named Anjali who is not loved by her father because she is a girl. Her father feels that girls cannot make their parents proud and he is ashamed of having a girl child. Anjali wishes that she had her father’s love and decides to prove to him that she is not any less special than a boy. Anjali decides to fulfill her father’s dream of climbing the Mount Everest. Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Everest” portrays how a girl child is not a curse but a boon to the family. This show has changed the mentality of all those families who feel ashamed of having a girl child.

Ananya is a girl who wants to be successful pilot and creates own identity in the society. Airlines beautifully portrays the success story of a female pilot. “Service Wali Bahu” is a Hindi drama series which was aired on ZEE T.V. This is a story of a career oriented woman, Payal, who is very hardworking. Dev falls in love with Payal and his family agrees to the marriage as they need a daughter-in-law who can support their family financially. The show presents Payal’s life who handles her house as well as supports her family financially. The story is also different as the boy’s family themselves want their daughter-in-law to work which is not a common thing in India. The show highlights how a woman is capable of handlingher family as well as working hard and achieve her goals.

“Tamanna” was a story of a young pretty female who wanted to become a successful cricketer and decides to work hard for it. Dhara is a very good player who is supported by her father in her dream to become a cricketer. But soon her dreams are shattered when she gets married to Mihir. “Suhani si ek ladki” depicts how a society judges a girl by her looks. Suhani, who is an average looking girl with a dark complexion, is opposed by her husband Yuvraj and his family who value beauty more than anything else. This story brings out how a girl’s complexion is always more important than a boy’s complexion and how a society judges a girl upon her beauty and not by her heart. The show presents the story of Suhani who wins the heart of her husband and his family by her behavior and also changes their views about beauty. This serial highlights that every woman is beautiful in their own way andshe cannot be judged only by her outer appearance.

10. Dosti Yaariyan Manmarziyan

Radhika, the protagonist of the story, wants to become an aspiring writer. She decides to make a bright career before getting married. She ends up in Mumbai and works at an advertising agency and finds her best friend Samaira. Samaira teaches Radhika to live her life the way she wants to and achieve success. Directed by Pushkar Mahabal, Manmarziya portrays the life of Radhika and how she achieves all that she had dreamt of. Women of today are independent and they can achieve everything on their own terms. They need not get married just to secure an identity; they create their own identity.
