Twitter, a social networking site, verifies the accounts of the most sought after celebrities, public figures and those that are at a risk of impersonation. The verified accounts are distinguished by a “blue tick” beside the profile. However, the ensuing Tollywood (Bengali) stars who are a public figure and are in the limelight haven’t had the privilege to have the blue tick beside their profile.

1. Koneenica Banerjee

Koneenica, a leading actress in the Tollywood Industry, is a Commerce graduate from the University of Calcutta. She has many films and TV shows to her acclaim. However, she made her debut in the entertainment industry with a daily soap named ‘Swapnanil’ which was aired on Zee Bangla, a household name for most of the Bengalis. She then went on to make her first big screen appearance with ‘Moloy Bhattacharjee’s “Tin Ekke Tin”. Koneenica joined Twitter in August 2009 and has a follower base of around 21.1k.

2. Sudipta Chakraborty

Sudipta, an actress by profession in the Tollywood film industry holds an honors degree in English from the Indira Gandhi National Open University. She appeared in the movie ‘Sanghaat’ for the first time. She has been a versatile actress throughout her career and has been bestowed with the National Award for her contribution in the flick ‘Bariwali’. She rose to the limelight with films such as Buno Haash, Open Tee Bioscope, and ‘Rajkahini’. She joined Twitter in 2011 in the month of March.

3. Jisshu Sengupta

Jissu, whose real name is Biswaroop Sengupta is an Indian actor and Television anchor. Initially, he was a cricketer who represented Bengal in Sub-junior games and is currently the captain of Bengal Tigers in the Indian Celebrity Cricket League. He is also a skilled drummer and has performed during his stint as an anchor on Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016. He joined the entertainment industry with his lead role in the mega serial ‘Mahaprabhu’. He has worked in quite some films and received acclaim from all over the world. His notable works include- Bose: The Forgotten Hero, The Last Lear (with co-actor Amitabh Bachchan), Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish and Abohoman, Arshinagar and Abar Aranye. He has also made his stints in Bollywood films like Barfi!, ‘Mardaani’ and 'Piku'. He joined Twitter in January 2012 and has a follower base of around 89k.

4. Sohini Sarkar

Sohini, initially a TV artist by profession made her debut on the small screen with ‘Adwitya’ in 2011 which was aired on Star Jalsha. She later went on to play a lead role in the serial Ogo Bodhu Sundori in the same channel. She started her career in the film industry with Rupkatha Noy in 2013 and later went on to play roles in movies like ‘Phoring’ (2013), Open Tee Bioscope (2015), Har Har Byomkesh (2015) and Rajkahini (2015). She joined Twitter in March 2014 and has a follower base of 8K.

5. Mainak Bhaumik

Mainak, a director, and editor by profession, made his directorial debut in 2006 with a film named ‘Amra’. In 2012, he rose to fame with the movie ‘Bedroom’ which portrayed the new age generation suffering from depression, frustration, and identity crisis within a world of Facebook. He released two films in 2013- one a feature film named “Maach Misti & More” while the other was a coming-of-age movie titled “Aami Aar Amar Girlfriends” which portrayed the lives and friendship of three Indian girls who cling to each other even in times of trouble. One of his feature films "Take One" (2014) was acknowledged with the ‘Nimit Rathod Award’ in 2015. He joined Twitter in December 2014 and has a follower base of around 5K.

6. Anjan Dutt

Anjan, a renowned personality is an actor, director, and singer-songwriter of the 90s is unique in the sense that his music has simple tunes and resembles western music. He is the first Bengali artist whose music is based more on the Saxophone. He started his career in Bengali cinema with ‘Mrinal Sen’s ‘Chalochitro’ for which he won the award for the best newcomer in the Venice Film Festival. He is considered as the Angry Young Man of serious cinema in contemporary who has also directed films namely “Chalo Let’s Go”, “The Bong Connection” and the “Byomkesh Bakshi” series. He joined Twitter in April 2015 and has a follower base of around 2K.

7. Gargi Roy Chowdhury

Gargee, an actor, newscaster and radio artist rose to fame with her long-running Bengali soap opera Sisirer Shabdo Sona Jai and Krishnakali Ami Tarei Boli. She has been featured in The Bengali version of the Horlicks advertisement. Moreover, she was currently in the news for her commendable performance in the movie ‘Ramdhanu’. She has also contributed to films like Teen Yaari Katha, ‘Naxal’, and ‘Lorai’ and so on. She joined Twitter in August 2013 and has a follower base of around 9K.

8. Kaushik Ganguly

Kaushik, an Indian director, screenwriter, and actor is known for his works which challenge societal norms and explores sexuality and transgender identity in addition to LGBT relationships. He directed his first film in 2004 named ‘Waarish’, a feature film starring Debashree Roy and Sabyasachi Chakraborty. His film Arekti Premer Golpo (2010) won at the International Film Festival of India and I-View Film Festival. The 42nd International Film Festival of India selected his flick ‘Laptop’ for screening at the event. He joined Twitter in June 2012 and has a follower base of around 138K.

9. Rachna Banerjee

Rachna, an Indian film actress by profession, has appeared in Bengali, Odia and Telugu films. She was announced as Miss Kolkata in 1994. She made her debut in silver screen with Daan Prootidan in 1994 when director Sukhen Das renamed her Rachna (actual name Jhumjhum Banerjee). Her recent works include Goyenda Gondogol (2013), Ramdhanu (2014) and Bousi.com (2015). She has also become a household name with her stint as an anchor on the reality show “Didi No. 1” in Zee Bangla. She joined Twitter in July 2015 and has a follower base of around 1K.

10. Gourab Roy Chowdhury

Gourab, a TV actor by profession, made his debut and rose to fame with the mega serial Tomay Amay Mile which was aired on Star Jalsha. He is a newbie in the entertainment industry and we are yet to see his versatility and other stints. He joined Twitter in October 2016 and has a follower base of around 108.
