All the kids shown studying in that school are pretty much rich though Karan has tried to show that that the kids studying in merit and by giving money are studying together.
However, the focus of the whole movie is just on the rich. Moreover, when we talk about sets or locations, whether it was the Dean’s house or Rohan’s house or the school or the wedding location, Thailand, every location and set were pretty much expensive. The movie depicts Karan Johar’s knack to show “rich” characters with expensive sets. This is obvious from the places they live and visit.
