When we think of Gujarat, the things that pop into our minds are vibrant colors, jolly-natured natives, and the melodious voice of Falguni Pathak. With the passing of time, we have learned the potential of every film industry. Though Gollywood is not in the limelight still is a primary vernacular film industry in India. Its been more than 85 years since the establishment of Gujarat's film industry, and over these years, it has tried its best to be what it is now. Also, the tax exemption paved the way for Gujarat’s film industry.Here are some movies that enabled Gollywood to leave a mark in the history of entertainment:-

1. Veer Hamirji- Somnath Ni Sakhate (2012)

Veer Hamirji- Somnath Ni Sakhate is an action drama film that beautifully presents the Gujarat of the 15 century. It narrates the heroic tale of Veer Hamirji, who, with the help of a few friends, was able to defend Somnath Temple from Muslim invaders.

2. Mehendi Rang Layo (1960)

Mehendi Rang Layo is an Indian-Gujarati movie is directed by Shubhash Shah. It’s a Gujarati feature film starring Usha Kiran and Rajendra Kumar. We can say that it was a musical blockbuster as the album of the movie was the result of the collaboration of Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar, and Mohammed Rafi.

3. Kanku (1969)

Kanku is a Gujarati film with a social drama genre. It is a movie adaptation of a short story written by Pannalal Patel. The actors in the movie were Pallavi Mehta, Kishore Bhatt, Kishore Jariwala, and many more. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Gujarati. The movie is about the struggles of a widow who is left alone with a son.

4. Chal Jeevi Laiye (2019)

Chal Jeevi Laiye is a Gujarati film released on 1 February 2019 was directed by Vipul Mehta. The film revolves around the father-son duo, Aditya Parikh and Bipin Chandra Parikh, who set on an unplanned journey, and meets a stranger Ketki Mehta on their way. At the end of the journey they are left with nothing but experiences.

5. Chello Divas

A New Beginning (2015)- Chello Divas is a movie that revolves around 8 college friends face ups and downs in their relationships at the end of college days and prepare for their new journey. This is a multi-staring film where we see actors like Yash Soni, Kinjal Rajpriya, Aarjav Trivedi, and many more. The movie made a box office collection of Rs. 18 crores.

6. Kevi Rite Jaish (2012)

In Kevi Rite Jaish, we have our famous Anang Desai, he is famous for his role in Khichdi. Kevi Rite Jaish is a comedy Gujarati film about an old father whose dream was to settle in the US, but his financial situation stops him. And wishes to live his dream through his son, Harish, but to his horror, Harish’s visa gets rejected due to his inability. It’s a movie which we can watch together with a family.

7. Bey Yaar (2014)

Bey Yaar is a story of two friends, Chako and Tino, who make money starts stealing valuable paintings from Chako’s family shop. After realizing their mistakes, they embark on the right platform before it’s too late. The movie went out to gross, almost Rs. 8.5 crores.

8. Hellaro (2019)

Hellaro is a period film about how women’s were discriminated against in those times. The opening scene is an irony where he refuses his daughter to accompany him when he is going to serve his dance for Maa Amba, the Goddess, saying only males can perform, this is the central plot of the movie. This social arrest is broken by a group of women, after which the status of women changes completely, this movie is an award-holding movie.

9. The Good Road (2013)

The Good Road revolves around the life of a truck driver, he who struggles to financially support his old parents and extended family, a boy who gets separated from his parents, and a child prostitute who is forced to join this profession. Things end up in a way that the interlinked lives of these 3 take an irreversible turn. The movie is swoon-worthy and helped the industry a bit.

10. Pela Adhi Akshar (2017)

Pela Adhi Akshar is a Gujarati film released in 2017 of romantic in the genre. It’s a story of 4 friends who are different and have different expectations of life. As we all know, in life, we never get what we dream of, and the movie revolves around the same plot.
