Durga Durgotinashini is a Bengali tv seriali. The program was the first broadcast by All India Radio on September 23, 1976, the holy day of Mahalaya. It replaced the long-running program Mahishasura Mardini a mythological serial directed by Birendra Krishna Bhadra. It replaced Bhadra as narrator with legendary Bengali film star Uttam Kumar, and Hemanta Mukherjee replaces Pankaj Mullick as the program's musical director. The new program (Diving Durgatiharinim) was a flop and received much criticism from listeners. The backlash was such that AIR decided to issue a public apology and continue airing the one told by Bhadra on Mahalaya.
