Veturi Sundara Rama Murthy, a famous lyricist and poet was born on January 29, 1936. His birthplace was Padakallepalli in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India. His father was Chandrasekhar Sastry, and Kamalaba was his mother. He did his schooling in Jaggayapeta and Diviseema in Krishna District. He graduated from S.R.R. Government College in Chennai. After his education, he went back to Vijayawada. He worked as a Journalist in 1952 in Andhra Prabha. Narla Venkateshwara taught him editing news basics in Andhra Prabha. After a few years he joined Andhra Pratika, a weekly. Mullapudi VenkataRamana and Bapu were his colleagues. He was taking care of the cinema section.
He was as an editor at Andhra Janata, the official daily newspaper of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. In 1962, he interviewed the Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru when he came to open Srisalem Hydroelectricity, becoming the only Telugu Journalist to do so. He also worked as assembly reporter in 1964. He is known for his witty and catchy articles. That was how he grabbed the attention of film industry. Veturi Sundara Rama Murthy used to often meet Dasarathi, the veteran lyric writer. He was offered a role in "NaaIllu" by Chittor V. Nagaiah. But he wrote a letter rejecting the offer and apologizing as he felt he was not correct for acting. He wrote his first song in the year 1974, "Bharatanaari Charitamu" under K. Viswanath.
Then Veturi composed many albums, and it was successful. He soon became director’s and producer’s first choice. He wrote nearly 5000 songs. He is considered as a milestone in Telugu film industry. He worked with many directors and actors in 1980. He maintained a proper balance producing classics and modern songs, and went on to produce great albums.
He maintained a good relationship with singers, music directors, actors, directors, and lyricists. In the history of Telugu cinema, he is considered as the complete lyricist. He is even named "guru" by his competitors. He termed as brother by director K. Viswanath. He has been awarded the National Award, Filmfare Awards, Nandi Awards and Manaswini. He was conferred by Acharya Nagarjuna University with the Honorary Doctorate. Veturi wrote two books titled "Sirikaakolanu Chinnadi" and "Komma Kommako Sannaayi".
