Kallakuri Narayana Rao was a Play writer, Cinematographer, and a Social Reformer. Kallakuri Narayana Rao was born on 28th April 1871. Kallakuri’s honorific name is Mahakavi. Kallakuri is known for the plays Varavikrayam, Chintamani, Chitrabhyudayam, Madhuseva, and Padmavyuham (1919). Kallakuri penned his myth dramas based on the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Siva Puranam, Bhagavata, and other epics.
In his play, Padmavyuham Kallakuri used historical and mythological frameworks as allegories for contemporary conditions under British domination. Kallakuri’s Novel Varavikrayam was about the Dowry System prevalent in British India, and in his play, Chintamani brought out the hazards of the practice of Harlotry. Kallakuri Narayana Rao died on 27th June 1927.
