Dr. Kancherla Keshava Rao, also known as K. Keshava Rao is an Indian Politician. He was born to K. Niranjan Rao and Govindamma on 04 April 1939. He was brought up in Warangal, Hyderabad. He pursued his Bachelor in Commerce from Badruka College, Hyderabad, Master of Arts from Osmania University Arts College, and Ph.D. from Osmania University.
K Keshava Rao has been associated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi party since 2013. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha. Rao was a congressman and held many important positions in the party as well as in government. In 2005, he was elected as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress and later, in 2009, was made a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He was also the chairman of the Minimum Wages Board and Rajiv Gandhi Technology Mission. In 2006, Rao was first elected to be a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Andhra Pradesh. Later, in 2013, he left the Indian National Congress and joined a regional party named Telangana Rashtra Samithi as Secretary General. He then was re-elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha in 2013 for 6 years as a representative of Andhra Pradesh. In 2020, he assumed the office as a representative of Telangana.
During his college days, Rao held elected positions at both university and national levels. He was a well-known student leader. He has also led many movements like Backward Classes and Civil Rights. Before entering into politics, he worked as an editor of The Daily News, a popular English daily. Rao also produced a film in Telugu, Nimajjanam (1979). The film won the National Award for Best Telugu Film. He is the writer of the books New Deal to Education, 1984, and Social Philosophy in Recent Indian Thought, 1987. Rao has won the inaugural international prize of the Global Association of Universal Peace (GAUP). On the personal front, he tied the knot to Vasanta Kumari and has four children with her.
