Her contribution to the Telugu cinemas and film industry is commendable. Her full name is Thota Govindamma Kamala Devi. Thota Govindamma was the name she had by birth. After entering the Telugu film industry, she changed her name to T. G. Kamala Devi. She was born on 29th December 1930. Her birth place was Karvetinagaram in Chittoor district of Madras, India during colonial rule, which is currently present in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from her admirable contribution to the Telugu film industry, she also had some different talents. Formerly, she also played billiards on a professional level. She won the Indian Women Billiards title two times in the year 1991 and 1995. She got married in 1946 with Avula Chandra Babu. She had only a single boy child from Avula. Her son’s name is Avula Jaychander. Her acting career started as a drama artist in a company. She played females and male roles in her acting career. She got an appraisal for her role as Alexander in a drama, and she is renowned for her character today as well. She was a great and very famous stage actor, and she acted in various dramas and plays. Her acting and great performance in the theatre brought her many medals and rewards.
After the drama company, she moved to the film industry and played some minor roles in near about 30 movies. Her career as a famous dubbing artist was at heights. She gave her voices to famous celebrities like Padmini, Lalitha, and B. Saroja Devi and many more such actresses. Her fame did not limit to the acting and dubbing fields, but she also was one of the first women who actively took part in cue sports in India. She began to discover her talent in the cue sports when Mrs. Horace Lindrum came to Chennai at the Andhra Maha Sabha in the year 1954. The situations made a way for her to enter the sports field and took the opportunity of playing as a women opponent against Mrs. Lindrum. Her first step into cue sports led her to various state-level and national-level sports competitions. She became the only woman playing cue sports at that time from India and participated in the open tournaments for snooker and billiards. She also had the privilege of playing exhibition matches with the World Billiards Champion Bob Marshall at Bangalore and Mysore. She won two National titles while representing the Tamil Nadu state in the game of billiards. She received the Nataka Kala Prapoorna award from Andhra Pradesh Nataka Academy. Her first movie that she worked in was Dakshayagnam in the year 1941. This movie was a Telugu production. Her last film was Abhimanavathi in the year 1975. Unfortunately, she passed away when she was 81 years old on 16th August 2012 in Madras, Tamil Nadu in India.
