Laya is a renowned actress, having done numerous projects in multiple languages. She was born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, whose father was a doctor and mother a high school music teacher. She has been married to her spouse, Dr. Sri Ganesh Gorty, since 2006. She has a daughter named Sloka Gorty and son, Vachan Gorty. Her talent does not end at acting alone. She is a skilled stage performer in the category of classical dancing and has taken to the stage frequently during her childhood days. In addition to this, she was also a state level chess player. Her debut film was as a child artist in the film 'Bhadram Koduko' (1992). Soon afterwards, she starred alongside the famed actor Venu, in the movie '
Swayamvaram' (1999), which was in Telugu.
Her career in the film industry goes on to around 40 films in various languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Her latest project was a Telugu movie named 'Adda' (2013). She was given the Nandi Award for Best Actress in a couple of movies: 'Manoharam' (2000), a Telugu film, playing the role of '
Usha', and 'Preminchu' (2001), again a Telugu creation, where she comes as '
Meena'. Some of her other projects were 'Maduve Aagona Baa' (2001) in Kannada, 'Sri Bannari Amman' (2002) in Tamil and 'Siva Rama Raju' (2002) in Telugu, to name a few. Currently, she has taken a break from movies and is residing with her family in Los Angeles, California.
