Kanniga is an Indian heroine who acts mainly in the Tamil movie industry. She secured her Tamil film debut with themovie SarithiraPesu released in the year 2015. In 2013, she won Miss Tamil Nadu's beautiful hair title. Kanniga's hometown is Aruppukkottai, Virudhunagar district. She was born and brought up in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu. Kanniga has two elder brothers.

Kanniga was not really into films during her younger days. But her father wanted her to be an actress, so she decided to pursue an acting career. Kanniga, as a child, appeared as a presenter of a Kids talk show telecasted on Isaiaruvi Channel. One day she got a call from filmmaker K. Balachander's office.

After seeing her on the show, Balachander thought she would be apt for a character and offered her the part. Kanniga did not want to miss out on an opportunity to with a senior filmmaker like him, so she accepted their proposal. She portrayed a character in two of K. Balachander's plays. She played a minor role in the movie TheeyaVelaiSeiyyanumKumaru (2013), directed by Sundar C. Kanniga went on to act in many feature films such as ThayinMadiyil, Saambal and Lyricist Snehan's directorial debut BommiVeeran.

But because of some financial issues, they put the theatrical release of the movies on hold. She played a curial role in the film Devarattam (2019), directed by M. Muthaiah, which gathered the audience's attention. Kanniga is a big fan of Actor Vikram and wishes to act with him someday. Kanniga has written a book called KannigavinGramathinSamayal.

She wrote it after extensive research on foods that have a lot of nativity and culture to it. Lyricist Vairamuthu wrote the foreword of her book. As of 2019, she started working on her second novel, which revolves around a woman. Kanika is also a trained Silambam artiste. Of late, whenever she does not have shooting schedules, she teaches Silambam to kids in Chennai. Kanniga has also learned ParaiAttam, a distinct type of dance in Tamil culture.

She likes Archery. She had an opportunity to work with Director Bala in the movie Varma but because of schedule clash with the film Devarattam which she was committed to that time; she had to let go of the offer. In an interview, she mentioned that Director Bala is her favorite director and considers him as a father figure. She hopes to do a film with him soon.
