Dhanya Balakrishna is an Indian actress prominently working in the Telugu and Tamil language film industry. This Bangalore-based actress was the discovery of A. R. Murugadoss who has given supporting roles in her first few films that she had appeared. She debuted in Tamil films through the film ‘7aum Arivu’ and also played a supporting role in a bi-lingual project named 'Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi’ (Tamil) and ‘Love Failure’ (Telugu) subsequently. In her first film, she was cast with Suriya and Shruti Haasan.
This versatile actress also acted with Daggubati Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu in a Telugu film ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ where she proposed to Mahesh Babu. The film was a hit and she established herself as an actress in Kollywood and Tollywood. At a very nascent stage in her acting career, she got into an uncalled-for controversy with Tamil Nadu viewers for a twitter remark, and she quit Kollywood then. Subsequently, this sandalwood girl made a debut as a lead actor in a Telugu film ‘Second Hand’. She also bagged another Telugu project ‘Chandamama Lo Amrutham’ which was a fantasy film. In 2013, she appeared in a Tamil film “Raja Rani” where she acted with Nayanthara and Arya, and had played Nayanthara’s friend character. She is an ardent fan of Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Her film Raja Rani did well in the box office and even the Telugu fantasy film did place her foot in Tollywood.
In 2014, Dhanya Balakrishna was also seen in ‘Amrutham-Chandamama Lo’ which was an adaptation of Amrutham TV sitcom. She is also hopeful of directing a film in the future. Currently, she is love with her choice of acting. In ‘Chinnadana Nee Kosam’, she acted with Mishti, a Bengali actress who made her debut with actor Nithin. In 2015, Dhanya Balakrishna will be seen in TV host turned filmmaker Omkar's production ‘Raju Gari Gadhi,' which is based on a biography of Bommala Raja and has other co-stars Ashwin and Chethan.
