Dhanya Balakrishna is an Indian actress prominently working in the Telugu and Tamil language film industry. This Bangalore-based actress was the discovery of A. R. Murugadoss who has given supporting roles in her first few films that she had appeared. She debuted in Tamil films through the film ‘7aum Arivu’ and also played a supporting role in a bi-lingual project named 'Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi’ (Tamil) and ‘Love Failure’ (Telugu) subsequently. In her first film, she was cast with Suriya and Shruti Haasan. 

This versatile actress also acted with Daggubati Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu in a Telugu film ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ where she proposed to Mahesh Babu. The film was a hit and she established herself as an actress in Kollywood and Tollywood. At a very nascent stage in her acting career, she got into an uncalled-for controversy with Tamil Nadu viewers for a twitter remark, and she quit Kollywood then. Subsequently, this sandalwood girl made a debut as a lead actor in a Telugu film ‘Second Hand’. She also bagged another Telugu project ‘Chandamama Lo Amrutham’ which was a fantasy film. In 2013, she appeared in a Tamil film “Raja Rani” where she acted with Nayanthara and Arya, and had played Nayanthara’s friend character. She is an ardent fan of Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Her film Raja Rani did well in the box office and even the Telugu fantasy film did place her foot in Tollywood.

In 2014, Dhanya Balakrishna was also seen in ‘Amrutham-Chandamama Lo’ which was an adaptation of Amrutham TV sitcom. She is also hopeful of directing a film in the future. Currently, she is love with her choice of acting. In ‘Chinnadana Nee Kosam’, she acted with Mishti, a Bengali actress who made her debut with actor Nithin. In 2015, Dhanya Balakrishna will be seen in TV host turned filmmaker Omkar's production ‘ Raju Gari Gadhi,' which is based on a biography of Bommala Raja and has other co-stars Ashwin and Chethan.

She is the daughter of S.K. Chawla who is a professional and Veena Chawla who is a homemaker. She has Sajal and Ankita as her elder sisters, and she is the youngest in her family. She did her schooling in Delhi at Modern High School and graduation from Political Science at Khalsa College of Delhi University. She started off her career in a theater group at IFF Mumbai. She trained for three months at Baary John Acting Studio by joining their training program and continued with theater after its completion. She has appeared in several advertisements and commercials. Her debut film came out in 2011, Prema Kavali directed by K. Vijaya Bhaskar, which was a great success and ran for about 100 days. She made her breakthrough release of Pooja Rangadu in the year 2012 opposite Sunil which was her second release. She also got praised for the comedy timing in the film Srimannarayana released in 2012 opposite actor Balakirshna. She delivered three movies in collaboration with RR Movie Makers, and then signed for Telugu remake of Hindi film Tanu weds Manu, Mr. Pellikoduku in the year 2013. She played the role of bold character Tanu in the movie for which she received praises as well as criticism from the audience. She is also amongst the cast of the upcoming film Rum directed by M.S. Raju in which she is playing the character of a modern girl, Meneka. She recently got chance to perform an item number in the film Supreme directed by Anil Ravipude which she signed in January 2016.

Well known Tamil and Telugu actress of black and white era, this extraordinary danseuse’s greatest legacy to cinema was that it is de rigeur for every girl who enters the South Indian cinema has to be an accomplished dancer. An actress par excellence, she combined beauty and histrionics to captivate the audience. She made her mark in South Indian cinema with her debut in a small role as a blind girl in M G R’s film En Thangai, which was released in 1952 and she acted in about 70 films with almost top stars like Gemini Ganesan, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and even Sivaji Ganesan. She came from a small village in Thiruvalluvar district where she was born on November 3, 1935. She was a stage artiste before making her debut in 'Enn Thangai' with the legendary M G Ramachandran. She and her brother E V Rajan established E.V.R pictures and went to produces films like Thaga Surangam with Sivaji Ganesan and Koduthuvaithaval with MGR. This actress tied her knot with a film maker to R Ramanna and had a son and a daughter... Not many know that En Thangai was based on a play written by ‘En Thangai’ Natarajan which hit the stage in the early 1950s which was enacted by struggling actor Sivaji Ganesan. While the screen role was offered to MGR. Actually MGR was not the choice for the film, but the role was to be enacted by singer Tiruchi Loganathan. For some reasons, Loganathan was replaced by MGR. Even attempts were made to rope Sivaji Ganesan for the role, but he was busy with debut film “Parasakthi’. Thus, Saroja got a break as the girl, who becomes blind due to lightening and young actress displayed her histrionics and reached the ladder of success in cine field. Her success in Tamil films took her to Telugu cinema and she played interesting roles in movies such as `Iddharu Mithrulu' where A. Nageswara Rao was the hero. She did not know Telugu, but her lines were written in Tamil and she spoke the dialogues. Besides acting, she also choreographed dances for a couple of Telugu films. She also acted in Hindi films too, She died when she was 74 at a private hospital in Chennai. She was honored with the 'MGR Award' by Jayalalitha.
