Kanta Rao was born as Tadepalli Lakshmi Kanta Rao in the year 1923 in Andhra Pradesh. He was a film producer and actor in the Telugu film industry. He has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi movies. He was also a film producer, who produced films under the banner Hyma films. Hymavati was his wife’s name and hence he named Hyma for his banner. During the period of and N.T. Rama Rao, Kanta Rao was also a popular person, in his own way. He was popular in playing with spiritual and historical movies and is well known for his Narada, Arjun and Lord Krishna roles. In the year 1963, he got the Rashtrapathi Award in the category of best actor for acting as Lakshmana in the film Lava Kusha. He started his career from the year 1951 with a small role in the film, Nirdoshi. He caught it strongly and achieved success in his career as an actor. He has acted in more than 100 films as a hero and more than 300 films as a character artist. He was also awarded the honorable Nandi Award by the government of Andhra Pradesh for his book Anaganaga Oka Raakumaarudu in the year 2007.
