P. Neelakantan was a film director belonging to the Tamil Film industry. Palaniyaandi Neelakantan was born in the district of Villupuram in Tamil Nadu in the year 1916. Since his younger days, he had been a theatre enthusiast and used to write plays. He wrote a play called Naam Iruvar which was adapted into a film in 1947 by the director Avichi Meiyappa Chettiar. Neelakantan went on to write screen play for movies like Gomathiyin Kaadhalan, Vedala Ulagam, Vazhkai and Mudhal Thethi among others. In the year 1951, he made his debut in the directorial space with the film Oru Iravu for which he also wrote the screenplay along with C.N. Annadurai. He also directed Thirudadhe and Ambikapadi.
He had close associations with the filmmaker M. G. Ramachandran and directed several movies in collaboration with him. His filmography includes Oru Thaai Makkal, Kumari Kottam, Ninaithadhai Mudippavan, Kannan En Kadhalan, Avan Pithana?, Edhaiyum Thaangum Idhayam, Poomalai, Sujage Rahasa (Sinhalese), Aadavantha Deivam, Gomathiyin Kaadhalan, Shivasharane Nambekka (Kannada), En Annan and many more. He died at the age of 75 in the year 1992.
