Production Sound Mixer
A production sound mixer, location sound recordist, location sound engineer or simply a sound mixer is a person responsible for recording all the sounds on set during the filmmaking or television production using professional equipment, and later include them in the finished product, for reference to be used by the sound designer.
Sound mixers have the choice of using their preferred microphones, recording media and mixing of audio signals in real time. The duty of the recordist is to reach the location of the shoot and set up their instruments to properly record all the sound during the shooting to later mix it with the original finished product. The recordist may be asked to record a wide variety of sound such as mono, stereo or multi-channel.
The recorded production sound track is later combined other elements with other elements like effects, music, narration, re-recorded dialog by automatic dialogue replacement.
