He comes from a small village in Kerala. Sankaran is the youngest A grade vocalist in All India Radio. He was well-known as a child prodigy. Sankaran began learning music when he was ten years old under the guidance of CS Narayanan Namboothiri.
He later learned under TV Gopalakrishnan, KV Narayanaswamy, and Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma. Sankaran Namboothiri took birth in Krishnan Namboothiri, who was a Kathakali dancer and Adithi Devi Antharjanom family in the year 1971. His hometown is Punayam (asamanoor village).
Sankaran has two older brothers, Krishnan Namboothiri, who is a retired Deputy Tahasildar,perumbavoor and Narayanan Namboothiri, who is a college lecturer in BTB college, Palakkad. Sankaran is married to Mrs. Smitha Sankaran from Cherthala, and the couple has a child. They currently live in Vennala, Kochin.
