Pushpavathy Poypadathu, popularly known as Pushpavathy, was born on 30 May 1974 in Velur, Kerala. She is an Indian playback singer, composer, and lyricist. Her father, Poypadathu Raghavan, influenced her to pursue a career in singing when she was 12. She gained her degree from Kerala Varma College. She was trained in Carnatic vocals for 29 years under her music teacher, Draupadi. Later, she joined the Chembai Memorial Government Music College and secured first rank. She debuted in 2002 with Kathu Kathoru Mazhayathu song featured in Kamal’s Nammal.
Two years later, she marked her endeavor and released her first album, Kabir Music of Harmony. She sang remarkable songs in her career, such as Thrissooru, Poomathe Ponnamme, and Haalaake Maronne. In 2011, she got her breakthrough in the Malayalam industry with the Chembaavu song from the movie Salt N Pepper. This song was offered to her by renowned composer Bijibal. She also received the Santhosham South Indian Films Award in 2012 for this song. She gained immense fame and love from her fans for her melodious voice. She also attempts to address caste-based inequalities in her work. She portrayed the issue in her song titled “Azadi.”
