Sanjoy Hazarika

Sanjoy Hazarika is a poet, author(writer), journalist, editor, political commentator and activist, social innovator, producer and filmmaker. A remarkable individual who has received recognition on a variety of levels, Sanjoy was born in 1954 in Shillong, Meghalaya. Sanjoy worked as a newspaper columnist and documentary filmmaker. Sanjoy has been named as the director of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative. Its goal was to promote and protect human rights across the Commonwealth. He is an honorary research fellow at Jamia Millia Islamic in New Delhi, where he holds the Dr Saifuddin Kitchlew chair. He is a member of several academic organizations and a government commission. Sanjoy is a managing trustee and co-founder of the Northeast Studies and Policy Research Centre.

Sanjoy is a communicator who is aware of his surroundings. With over 75 journalists from the northeast and other parts of the country, he hosted the NFINE media exchange. The goal is to create a communication link between regional news outlets and the rest of the country.
Sanjoy hosted a northeast television update on the Doordarshan channel for two years. He is the founder of the northeast page as consulting editor in a regular column.

He also writes for The Hindustan Times, The Indian Express, The Wire, The Tribune of Chandigarh at irregular columns. He was the first National Security Advisory Board (1998-1999), and he was a member of the advisory panel(northeast) for the national commission to review the working of the constitution. He was appointed as the former member of the committee to review the armed forces particular power act (AFSPA). After that, he was elected to the National Council for Social Science Research. Many more things are to come as he ages!
