Kalyan Karmakar

Kalyan Karmakar is an Indian food writer and marketing insights specialist at Finely Chopped Consulting. He is also a famous food columnist for NDTV Foods, ScoopWhoop, Times of India Blogs, Femina, The Indian Express, and so more. Kalyan Karmakar was born on February 7, 1974. His place of birth is Kolkata, India. He completed his secondary education at Assembly of God Church School, Kolkata. He took a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) in Sociology at Kolkata’s Presidency College. He later graduated with a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Marketing. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. He has been living in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

He commenced his career as a market researcher, and he started writing a blog on food in 2007. As a market researcher, consultant, and associate director, he has worked in agencies such as TNS India, The Nielsen Company, IMRB International, and Draft FCB Ulka. He was the Vice President at TNS, where he was responsible for qualitative research at Mumbai and Qualitative digital research at the national level. After that, he worked as an Advisor – Consumer Insights at MRSS India in Mumbai. He used his experience in the field of consumer insights and passion for social media & digital. He worked with clients to use social media to understand consumer trends in verticals like Food & Beverages, Media, Lifestyle, IT, Online, Financial Service, and FMCG verticals.

Kalyan Karmakar has been working as a freelance blogger at Finely Chopped in Mumbai since August, 2016. He loves food and loves writing and talking about it too. He wrote columns for Scoopwhoop and NDTV Food. He also worked with brands on food marketing and consulting projects. He wrote his debut book “The Travelling Belly,” which is a food travelogue based on his delectable journey as a market researcher across India. The book was published in India by Hachette Publishing in 2017 and reprinted within a year of being published. He also runs Finely Chopped consulting, offering insights by his experience as a food writer & a market researcher, and works as a consultant for brands in the food space.

He was awarded the best food Critic & Writer Award in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Culinary Forum 2019 Chef Awards. He also won the Social Samosa Influencer Awards 2017, the Best Indian Food Blogger Award in the BH&G, the FBAI Best General Food Blogger Award multiple times, and the Godrej Protect Power Blogger Award in 2017.
