Another version of this Bio...
One of the rapidly growing entry channels to a career in Bollywood has been the route via TV hosting or Video Jockeying. In the recent past, a large number of such successful entries have been made to the Mumbai film industry. The case of Anusha Dandekar is quite interesting and in some ways novel too. Emerging from a globetrotting background – born in Khartoum, moving to London via India and then a big leap to Sydney – she came back to India to enter and win MTV VJ Search – something she always dreamed of! For the next few years she radicalised the look of MTV India, bringing in a new “couldn’t care less” and boldness to it, akin to the overseas versions of MTV. Her western appearance and Australian accent was something refreshingly welcome to her audience, and her image and popularity plummeted up, landing her atop covers of all leading fashion magazines. Not far behind were expensive endorsement contracts with trendy brands like Reebok and Lee Jeans. With all the limelight she was hogging and the finesse and confidence she displayed through her MTV shows, it did not take much time for her to have Bollywood personalities on her ‘friends list’. Inevitably, therefore, Bollywood offers started coming her way, and she landed up with a role in the 2005 Big B - Sharmila starrer “Viruddh” playing basically a role nearer to her own personality. Not surprisingly the film drew very positive review for Anusha’s performance, fetching the Maharashtra Times Sanman Best Debut Award in 2006. “Viruddh” was however, not her first film – she had commenced acting in the film “Mumbai Matinee” in which she featured as “temptress” – a role she could easily co-relate with. After “Viruddh” she acted in a film called “Miss Bollywood”, portraying the role of a striving dancer, and in her next film, “Anthony Kaun Hai?” she co-starred with
. Going back to her roots, she also acted in both the Marathi and Hindi versions of Mahesh Manjrekar’s film “City of Gold” and finally in the exclusively Marathi film, “Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha”. The entertainment world awaits her next exploits.
