In her statement, she said that Sharma consistently criticized her, from her looks to her voice and that she will send Tanu somewhere to meet politicians as part of her job. But she was hired as an anchor and she was baffled about the intention behind why Sharma is making such demands.

When she decided to resign, she informed her immediate superior, MN Prasad, however, Prasad treated her text message as a formal resignation and told her to leave without any formal notice. The channel has a different side of the story and stated that Tanu was given warnings for doing mistakes when she laughs on air and when she left the studio and stayed in the cafeteria during work hours. Later on, she filed a formal complaint against Sharma and Prasad for alleged harassment and mental torture.

This havoc caused Tanu Sharma to attempt suicide by consuming rat poison outside the office of India TV in Noida. Prior to the suicide attempt, she wrote a suicidal note on her Facebook. Tanu has left television and she is now a traveler, bringing photography to life.
