Reena Wadhwa

Reena Wadhwa is an award-winning Hindi actress turned Entrepreneur. She was born in 1966. She says her father would accompany her to the late-night shoots and wanted her to marry instead of continuing to act. She was set to marry the now Business Tycoon Ashok Wadhwa via a Newspaper Matrimonial section. She concentrated more on her marriage and settled into the family life well enough. She has two kids with Ashok, a son (Karan) who is now 24 years old and a daughter (Nikita) who is 23 years old.

She made her comeback into the silver screen industry after a long sabbatical in 1996 as a producer. In 2002, she was cast in the critically acclaimed show “Kahin Diya Jale Kahin Jiya” for the role of Suhasini. She broke the stereotypical vamp regime that was prevalent in Hindi TV shows in that era. She was the “other woman” in the show but sported a smart dressing style. Her wardrobe consisted of classic handspun cotton salwar teamed with Kohl-lined eyes, sans the heavy makeup that was supposed to be typical of the vamps in that era.

Her career took a turn towards fashion and luxury when her company, Luxury Goods Retail Pvt. Ltd., became the Indian Partner to the Italian Fashion giant GUCCI. On 4th December 2009, GUCCI signed an agreement with Reena Wadhwa for direct entry into the Indian retail market with a 51% stake. Reena’s brand holds 49% shares. She associates with the style statement and the cruise collection that this brand promotes. She is often seen at parties and events, sporting GUCCI. Her latest splurge is the Oversized Python Handbag from Fall’2014. Although the venture is new and exciting, Reena is no stranger to the corporate world, being the daughter of CY Pal, who was the Chairman of Cadbury, India.

Her style icon in Haseena Jethmalani and her pet peeves include clothes sticking to the body and uncomfortable shoes. At a garden party, she says, she will always be seen sporting flats. Her business regime imposes the need to visit Italy at least once every year. Tiffany and Co., the US jewelry giant, has been in talks to enter the Indian market through a hugely successful Luxury Entrepreneur partnership. She likes traveling with her husband and is very adaptive in nature.

She also says that her poise and such a smart sense of fashion might result from her background in front of the camera. She wants to go back to acting, but only if she gets meaningful roles and not flaky ones like “Akshay Kumar’s Mom.”
