Ankit Shahas started his career in acting by being featured on a short film named ‘Right Here Right Now’ directed by the Mumbai-based filmmaker
. The entire film revolves around two basic human emotions- anger and happiness. The story begins with the central character getting angry at his mother, while he later happily compliments his brother on making a good painting. The two emotions, get transferred to different people through his Mother and his Brother. Ankit plays the role of the teenage brother in the short film.
Though shot in an amateur manner with an autofocus Handycam and various shots in which the shadow of the cameraman appears on the frame, the film consisted only of two long shots, each of fourteen minutes in length, demanding each character to portray his part without a single flaw. Ankit did his share pretty satisfactorily in the movie. His task was to ask his brother’s opinion on the painting, and take it to his girlfriend to give it to her as a gift, while having a short, cautious conversation with her while her parents are nearby- all this in a single shot.
After the film, his next acting bit was in the Hollywood movie ‘Oceans Thirteen’ released in 2007. Though he appeared in an uncredited role of a casino gambler, he was lucky enough to have shared screen presence with the master actor in the movie. He thinks of the small appearance as the most privileged moment in his career. In the year 2009, he acts in a television series known as ‘
Shaurya Aur Suhani
’ as a character named Dara. He played one of the lead characters in the series and acted in all sixty-six episodes of the show.
The show belonged to a fantasy genre and had a huge budget, regardless of which it failed to fare well with the viewers owing to its poorly developed plot and the overrated theme. His last appearance as an actor was in ‘
’- a television show aired in 2011. He played the role of Shashank, a historically significant character belonging to the Mauryan dynasty. In 2014, he took the role of a composer for the short film- ‘The Last Audition’. In 2015, he tried his hand in another field associated with media, which was as a Production designer in the television movie ‘Tuj Se Hi Raabta’.
